The Canadian military is once again embroiled in controversy following the much publicized arrest of Corey Hurren, who faces 22 charges after crashing his truck, with an arsenal of weapons, through Rideau Hall (Government House) in Ottawa. Further investigations have revealed additional far right members of the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group, operating out of western Canada. Two members from Valemount, British Columbia, Erik and Jodi Myggland, have been singled out for their online support for Three Percenters and the Soldiers of Odin. [1]

In a particularly troubling aspect of this latest military scandal, the Mygglands’ unit was engaged in “watching for illegal immigrants in Canada’s waters,” according to the national government. The military has claimed that its hands were tied in expelling Myggland because his social media posts took place on his own time – a claim disputed by at least one military legal expert. Lt.-Gen. Wayne Eyre, commander of the Canadian Army, told the press that Erik Myggland should be formally out the military “within weeks.”[2]

Valemount, in the Secwépemc territory of eastern British Columbia, is a small town of just over 1000 that, until the Mygglands, was best known for it’s key role supporting the Trans Mountain Pipeline. This support appears have included the Myggland’s involvement in at least one promotional event in 2017.

Just down the highway members of the Tiny House Warriors, located just outside Blue River, are attempting to address the threat posed by the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion and camp construction for pipeline workers. They also continue to deal with violence, threats, harassment and intimidation, including vehicular assault.
