Just days after lashing out at President Obama’s immigration actions, a leader of a national Tea Party faction claims to be strategizing with retired military generals to overthrow the “Obama regime.”

In a November 22 email, Steve Eichler, the executive director of the national Tea Party faction, the 1776 Tea Party, tried to terrify supporters into opening up their wallets with a tale of how cuts to military spending were part of diabolical conspiracy by President Obama to bring about Martial law in the United States.

“It has all been part of a cold and calculated strategy to bring America to her knees. While he was doing that he created his own shadow army.

The Obama army has loaded up on weapons, arms and munitions, tanks, body armor and body bags!

The horror of it all is hard to swallow.

He is just waiting for the right moment to declare Martial law. And who will we have to defend us? ”

Eichler went on to declare that he and his organization were scheming with former military leaders on ways to overthrow the US government.

“I have a team ready to storm Washington with demands that our military be restored and our country protected from terrorists that sit in waiting, looking for just the right moment.

We are also working ‘underground’ with top retired military generals and officers to strategize our takedown of the Obama regime.”

It should be noted that the likelihood that Eichler’s Tea Party group is actually organizing a coup is minimal, but it is an important reminder of the treasonous and toxic rhetoric of some Tea Party leaders. With hatred of the first black president still surging through the Tea Party ranks, venomous talk of sedition needs to be challenged before it becomes the new normal.
