A United States military news source, Early Bird Brief, disclosed that a CD and a flyer with the Northwest Front logo and web address was circulating at Fort Carson, an Army base south of Colorado Springs, in the southeast corner of Colorado. The flyer asks readers, “ever wonder if you are fighting for the right side?”
The Northwest Front is a small white nationalist organization that urges the creation of a whites-only republic in the states of the Northwest—a dream that has circulated among Aryanists since the formation of The Order robbed banks, murdered a half-dozen folks and set up a clandestine structure in the mid-1980s.
The Northwest Front is built around the personality of Harold Covington, a long-time national socialist (neo-Nazi) born in North Carolina but who has now set up camp in the Seattle-Tacoma area. Covington has written four novels depicting his version of a white-ist revolution and the establishment of the white republic. Other veteran movement cadres generally avoid contact with Covington, but he has attracted a couple dozen followers in the Northwest.
Apparently the organization has attracted at least one adherent among the white nationalists who work or serve at Fort Carson, although a posting by Covington on the Northwest Front website claimed, “This appears to be an independently produced leaflet. I honestly have no idea who this is.”
This is neither first nor will it be the last instance of white nationalist organizing in the contemporary United States military. White racist organizing along with sexual harassment continue unabated in military circles, and more pressure by a concerned public needs to be applied to defense officials.
NB: The Northwest Front is not a Klan organization (the Raw Story used a Klan graphic along with its version of this story).
