Tea Party Switcheroo: Different Nativist Group to Present at Tea Party Nation Conference

Just when you thought they were out, they jump right back in…
As quickly as one anti-immigrant group extricates itself from the Tea Party Nation convention, another one jumps in to fill the gap.
Yesterday, we reported on the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) pullout from the Tea Party Nation convention. FAIR withdrew over of concerns about the for-profit status of the convention organizers and the possibility of convention money flowing into campaign coffers.
Other anti-immigrant groups didn’t get the memo, apparently. A new schedule of events released today on the convention website shows the nativism slot being filled by the FAIR-allied group, NumbersUSA. The group is set to conduct a workshop entitled "5 Easy Fixes to the High Cost of Mass Immigration."
Both NumbersUSA and FAIR were founded and funded by John Tanton, a retired Michigan eye doctor who’s written that to maintain American culture “a European-American majority” is required.
Despite attempting to portray a “moderate” anti-immigrant image, NumbersUSA is no stranger to controversial organizations or events. For instance, NumbersUSA head Roy Beck spoke at the national conference of the white nationalist Council of Conservative Citizens in November 1997.
